Rudy Surco, Gastronomic ceramist
After a first life as a cook in gastronomic restaurants, his sensitivity for aesthetics, the beauty of the product and its presentation, led him to train as a ceramic artist at the European Institute of Ceramic Arts in Guebwiller.
From his previous experiences behind the stove, Rudy has seen that the container is as important as the content. More than a ceramist, he considers himself a cook who creates plates.

My story
Like a dish, each plate has its own character.
It is the breeding ground for the creativity of the Chefs, the link between the kitchen and the dining room.
Rudy Surco draws his inspiration from his daily life and the nature that surrounds him. Each object is unique, created from scratch. Each form is formed randomly, but must nevertheless carry a meaning and arouse an emotion. A piece of clay thrown on the ground or the shape of a pebble found in the river can inspire him to make a living creation that will last through time. It is this constant research and this work of the object, which will show the quality of the product.
For certain creations, Rudy discusses with the Chef in order to adapt his know-how and the technical constraints that will allow the plate to serve the product. Each piece is cooked at a temperature of 1280 to 1300 degrees to guarantee its solidity.
In the same way that a cook creates a sauce, a ceramist creates his glaze. The creation of enamels is essential for Rudy. This is why he has chosen to make the search for enamels his specialty. This requires good knowledge of materials and pure chemistry, but this allows him to offer parts that meet the quality requirements.
